What is AB-Fortis®?

AB-Fortis® is produced using a patented process, which provides highly stable encapsulation preventing release of free iron in the food matrix.

Why use AB-Fortis®?

Iron is an important mineral required for a number of essential cell functions, yet iron deficiency is still the most prevalent micronutrient deficiency in the world today. AB-Fortis® has a uniform and defined iron dosage of around 40% of iron by weight, which is constant among batches. Another crucial advantage of AB-Fortis® is the minimal release of iron from the microcapsules during its storage and after the combination in supplements or other applications. The microencapsulation prevents the classical side effects of other iron supplements.

THE IMPORTANCE OF IRON

Iron is an important mineral required for a number of essential cell functions and hence is a vital nutrient. Only trace amounts of it are needed; the recommended daily intake is between 7 and 30 mg/day but this is highly dependent on gender and age. Microencapsulation process AB-Fortis® microcapsules are produced by ionotropic gelation of alginate with calcium, entrapping the iron salt inside. Calcium displays a strong interaction with alginate, stabilizing the microcapsules and avoiding the release of iron.
